Family Beach Session in Ft. Lauderdale

This family beach session in Fort Lauderdale was a breath of fresh air that inspired me to remind
you that your family photos -especially while you are on vacation- don’t have to be a
nightmare of an experience.

As a Fort Lauderdale family photographer, I’m sharing three tips to keep your family beach photo session a smooth and stress-free experience. Read on!

  1. Plan ahead.
This is the key to a successful photo session, especially if kids are involved, especially if you don’t know the area. Plan with your photographer about the best times for best lighting, weather conditions, crowd levels, parking situation, permits, etc. Trust the photographer you are hiring and plan with them so that you are not overwhelmed when the time comes. If your heart is set on golden hour, pastel skies, beachy photos then plan for an early morning session or late afternoon. In the Summer, sunset can be as late as 8:30 PM.
My best advice as a photographer is to aim for  weekday, especially during Summer or Spring (school break months) –this ensures you’ll get a little bit of privacy during your session.

2. Prepare the kids.
Talk to your kids before the session and let them know what to expect, who will be directing or telling them what to do, etc. Bring snacks, water, a favorite toy, some of their favorite music, and a change of clothes –or, even better!: let them play with the elements and embrace it. The more you try to control and restrict kids during these sessions, the more they’ll want to run wild. Let them touch sand, let them splash in the water (I’m looking at you, moms!). I can guarantee you will cherish those photos just as much.

3. Relax and have fun.
Your photographer is there to capture genuine connection and personalities, the things that make you unique. Don’t stress about getting the perfect family photo like the ones you saw on Pinterest. Often the best photos are the candid moments of laughter and play, wind-swept hair, sandy toes. Trust the photographer you hired and focus on connecting with your family!
