There is something undeniably intimate and romantic about stepping away from traditions and trends in a way that feels unique and meaningful to you. One of my favorites recently has been couples getting ready together on the morning of their wedding day.
The morning of your wedding day does not have to mean separation and nerves –those days are gone! As a wedding photographer, I’m seeing more couples intentionally choose to spend that sacred time together, grounding each other before the craziness of the day begins.
Documenting these intimate and slower-paced mornings is magic. From sipping coffee barefoot together, to stealing loving looks and a kiss between fixing and tie or buckling a shoe… it’s a beautiful way to start one of the most important days of your lives.
(Tip: consider getting ready together instead of a private first look!)
Why Get Ready Together?
Wedding mornings can be a little bit chaotic and full of jitters but having your partner there can ease the nerves and remind you of what the day is truly about -and that’s each other.
Not to mention that the photos can be unique and unforgettable. The emotional connection on this special day, the loving glances… it’s the kind of beauty you can’t fake. These candid moments tell an even deeper story than a first look or staged portraits ever could.
And last, it’s a time to connect before your guests arrive and the celebration begins. You can do anything you want, anything that speaks to you both! You can exchange your vows, play your fav music, or simply sit together and reflect.
How To Make It Work
If this kind of quality time speaks to you, here are my tips on making it work:
First, be intentional with your time. So whether you want a slow morning or a first look, carve out space in your wedding day timeline just for the two of you. If you want photos during this time, I recommend coordinating at least one hour with your photographer.
Next, coordinate your outfits. It really can make your images to choose your getting ready outfits for the morning. Make sure they’re steamed, ready to go, and that you’re comfortable in them.
Last, your room should be spacious first, and well-lit second. Extra points if it’s chic, too!
Put all your clutter away. As a photographer, I promise you it makes a huge difference to be able to move around in a room as opposed to staying cramped by one single window or corner.
Getting ready together on the day of your wedding may not be trendy or traditional but if intimate, quality time is something that speaks to you; if you’re looking for a wedding morning experience that feels more connected and less performative, then this is a beautiful way to start the day.
And if you’re feeling inspired, dreaming of emotional wedding images that beautifully capture your love, your relationship –I’d be honored to work together. Please reach out here
