As a Miami maternity photographer, one of the most exciting aspects of my job is the opportunity to photograph the excitement and intimate connection between expecting parents. In this blog post, I want to take through some favorite images from this recent studio maternity session I recently had the privilege of working on + some helpful tips to help prepare for your studio maternity photo session.

Tips for your studio maternity photos
First, make sure to arrive to the studio early! Especially if it’s your first time in that location. You want to
get good parking, use the restroom, get into your outfits, get a snack in all with plenty of time so that you don’t end up rushing through your session. Ask your photographer how long the studio rental is for and at what time the session will actually begin/end.
Second, choose simple and timeless outfits. For indoor studio maternity sessions, less is often more.
Wear simple neutral-colored clothes that you will also be comfortable in. During these sessions, I personally tend to go for plenty of sitting poses (sitting on floor, a couch, multiple chairs, and any piece of furniture that is solid).
Finally, think about incorporating some personal or sentimental touches. Bring along some personal items that have sentimental meaning to you. In the past, expecting parents have brought baby shoes, a stuffed animal, and that first ultrasound picture. These can add a unique touch and even more sentimental value to your gallery.
Indoor vs. Outdoor Locations
I often get asked whether an indoor location is really better than an outdoor location and I’m here to tell you that while Miami/Ft Lauderdale beaches and parks are beautiful, a studio offers unique advantages that make it the perfect choice for maternity photos. Especially if you are well into your third trimester and going through the everlasting high temperatures that we get almost year round here in SoFlo.
One of the biggest and best advantages of a studio: unlimited air conditioning. South Florida’s weather can be unreliable/unpredictable. Heavy rain showers, intense heat and humidity –all of this can make a maternity session extremely uncomfortable and difficult to get through.
In a studio, though, you don’t have to worry about getting rained out, your hair and make up getting ruined; you can be totally focused on enjoying the experience without rescheduling, worrying, or rushing.
By the way, did you know that the studio you see in these images is included in your full maternity session with me? You can see more info about it here
