Tips for a Stress Free Maternity Session From Your Miami Maternity Photographer
Maternity sessions may just be some of the most rewarding sessions I get to work on as a Miami maternity portrait photographer.
There is something special about photographing the anticipation and joy of a soon-to-be mama as she prepares to welcome
a new life into her world. The world. But hey, let’s be honest! Pregnancy can be a total whirlwind of emotions and changes. I’m
way too familiar with how throwing a photo session in the mix can become overwhelming, that’s why today I wanted to share with you
some of my best tips to a stress-free maternity session.
First things first: TIMING. Timing is your friend and, before it’s all gone, you want to plan and schedule your photo session
between 28 and 34 weeks. By this stage, you should still feel comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience and your belly
should be beautifully round as well. If you’re expecting twins, though, you should schedule your maternity photos a little
earlier as your belly will grow faster.
Second, choose OUTFITS that will make you feel confident. This is one of the toughest parts about a maternity session,
but it doesn’t have to be! My best tip is to go with something that makes you feel comfortable and confident while staying
cohesive with the location of your session. Whether
that is a flowy dress, a simple jeans and tank top combination, or just your bathing suit. If you’re ever unsure, bring a second or third option
and decide with your photographer what photographs best.
Next, and my favorite thing to talk about: LOCATION. Choosing where your photo session will take place can really
set the tone for what your photos will look like. Do you love the idea of privacy and air conditioning? then maybe a
studio location or even at-home will be perfect for you? Do you prefer to include some of the elements? Like, ocean, palm trees,
sunshine + beautiful skies? then a beach location might be more appropriate for you. Always make sure to communicate
your vision with your photographer and pay attention to their suggestions.
In my experience, some South Florida beaches tend to be busier during the weekends even at sunrise. Always plan and communicate
with your photographer! – I can’t stress this enough.
Side note, since studio locations were mentioned here, the following studios are included in your maternity session
with me (minis excluded): Soultuary and Shooting Stardust Studios
Not included but locations I recommend and would love to create something magical at: Rich Hippies House in WPB,
White Trail Jupiter
Redland Cottage
And last, I know I already mentioned this but COMMUNICATION with your photographer goes a long way.
Take some time to talk and plan with your photographer (hi! that’s me!) about your ideas, your vision, what you’re hoping
to achieve or if you have any concerns/insecurities. Personally, the more I know about you and your vision, the better
the process and the results. At the end of the day, this is a collaborative process, my friend!
