Family sessions will always have a special place in my heart. I get flattened by the mundane and sometimes, working weddings feels similar to being on a rollercoaster: I love it, I love the adrenaline I get, but then I feel hungover. So family sessions are a different way to get on that creative high for me.
I always ask moms (because it’s usually moms who inquire) what it is that they liked about my work and what they wish to achieve in a family session with me.
Nine times out of ten, I get the same answer: “we want relaxed pictures that show our personalities.”
I’m here to tell you that family photos do not have to be stressful, they do not have to be a miserable time for everyone involved.
We will play, we will run around, we will probably get sandy and wet and you will still have beautiful family photos you will want to hang on your walls.
Part of the process of a family photo session with me is we get to go over wardrobe/styling. This is a huge, can’t-miss step for me because I feel like it can make or break your session. It can take it from cookie-cutter family photo that anyone can take to unique, soulful, truly emotive images.

The chaos and joy that is family. The duality of feeling like you have it all together one moment while you feel like you’re about to fall flat on your face the next. Mom life, right?
The irony is that on the day of this shoot, we had 100% chance of rain but sometimes you have a gut feeling… and that gut feeling told us not to reschedule. Fortunately enough, the rain stopped during that one-hour window we had agreed upon for this session and what do you know? It worked out! Nothing I love more than dramatic skies and wind-swept hair.
